Movies and Musicals

After having miraculously and unbelievably landed a lead role in this years school play, We Will Rock You, I have very nearly completely lost my voice! I only auditioned for a laugh and partly because it is my last year but I have ended up with a none to small role to say the least. Not only have I been pushing my throat to its absolute limit with my six songs in the play but I also spend the majority of last week singing carols in preparation for the carol service. As well as this already fairly above normal amount of singing as part of our enrichment programme in the sixth form I have been rehearsing for a show at the end of next term. Therefore all of this coupled with a fairly bad cold as a result of the bad weather I will be lucky if a can still speak at the end of next week.

However, due to the time of year and the fact that I was feeling slightly under the weather, this weekend I was able to properly snuggle up and watch a film. After wasting a lot of my time with the ridiculously addictive programme that is the X Factor but eventually I chose my film of the weekend. I made myself a hot chocolate - perfect at this time of year - and sat down to this week's Sky Anytime film, It's Complicated. This new spin on a romcom featuring Meryl Streep and Alec Guinness is a refreshingly funny take on the traditional love story.

The film presents all the struggles of real life and the intricacies of relationships too. The family scenes are adorable and realistic too. I also love Meryl Streep's character's bakery and the cooking scenes are really street. A supporting role from Steve Martin also gives a few extra laughs from those which are already created by Streep and Guinness's amazing on screen relationship and it had my laughing for most of the film!

Generally a very sweet and funny film which I thoroughly enjoyed and would definitely recommend!
